@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

Has anyone seen footage for this upcoming Disney film? Let me admit, I'm somewhat skeptical, but I'll still see it. The poster is freakin beautiful though.

Oh yeah, they've been building this one up for years. It's another one of their "Princess movies" (though she's not a Princess, like Mulan or a few of the others) except OMG she's BLACK. (And in New Orleans to.... yeeep.) First a black president, then a black disney heroine, what won't they think up next?
I like how they made the lighting on the poster sort of hide the fact though, since -internationally- "Minority" films have a relatively poor record at the box office.
I know I can't wait to be unable to walk in a store without being visually assaulted by pink plastic crap with her face (along with the rest of the mostly white "rainbow of princesses") on it.

But if you're in on it, you can make it." - Vincent Price

Ah yes, I've heard of this film. I think it's a great leap forward to have a - pretty - black heroine. But to be honest, when I looked at the linked poster, it didn't occur to me that her colour had been effectively 'hidden' until Ratty pointed it out. Well, if that's what's needed to make the film a success, then so be it, I suppose. I did hear somewhere though that she spends much of the film as a frog, so not actually, you know, black.

It's strange the way minority groups are portrayed in the media by the flag-bearers of traditionally-held perfection. I occasionally buy Cosmopolitan magazine, and they're pretty bad 'skinny is good' offenders. About 3 months ago they published an interview with a +-size model, complete with a few pictures. Sound good? Confidence-boosting for overweight girls? The product of a supportive feminine mindset? Not quite. The interview itself was pretty good, quite affirming for girls who aren't skinny, and we need more of that, I think. But the pictures weren't up to much at all. The model was wearing mostly black clothes and standing against a black background so you couldn't see her silouhette. It was pretty blatant that she was being hidden. In some images, she was too close to the camera for the viewer to get any meaningful context of her and the background (again, presumably to hide her size). One or two might also have been slightly blurred. I don't remember dynamic shots being particularly popular for images of their small models. There was a certain furtive quality to the pictures overall; I felt disappointed for the model.

So yes. A lot of these top-of-the-tree media companies want to be seen to include the minority groups without wanting to show anything that might be seen as imperfect, and the hypocrisy can still shine through. It's a shame. I wish Cosmo had bitten the bullet, personally. After all, with all the classic 'perfect' images in their magazine, including in the issue with the overweight model, they hardly had the same problem as Disney with their black poster-girl, did they?

I'm mostly interested to see how Disney approaches this newest 2d feature. I felt with the last handful of traditonally animated movies, from Pocahontas on, that the visual style was becoming more simplified and stylized, and I wasn't too keen on them.

They've had this in the works for a while. But I believe they shelved it in favor of their 3-D crap like Chicken Little and My Hero. (At least I think it's called My Hero. Google seems to want nothing to do with it. )

When PIXAR's John Lasseter was hired by Disney as a Chief Creative Officer, he helped put the finishing visual touches on Bolt during its early stages, then suggested Disney go back to what they were really good at, and pulled The Princess and the Frog back from the dead.
I believe in what I want to believe in, you believe in what you want to believe in, so when someone wants to believe in something, no one will know what to believe!
Believe it or not...

One thing I have to say is that this is more like a return to the form of movies Disney is famous for. Hand drawn films have still been made, but not alot. Some examples include the SpongeBob Squarepants movie, the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie, and the Simpsons movie.

None of those were actually hand-drawn in the literal sense (i.e., pencils and paper and cels). Dunno about SpongeBob, but definitely not ATHF or The Simpsons Movie (in fact, The Simpsons Movie doesn't even look at all like the show if you know what to look for; it's much fancier animation). Probably a better term to use would be "2D animation".

And that's the pedantry for today.

Yeah, and what does the show look like? A lot of copy 'n' paste. Definitely not traditional animation.

Kaptain H you love the renissance or what? it's not true what you said, i mean "Mulan" and "Emperor's New Groove" are prime examples of excellent post-Pocahontas animated movies. I mean 2D animation is something we all miss and we don't want disney replaced by Pixar.

What's your opinion on the infamous "Black Cauldron"?
