I like how they made the lighting on the poster sort of hide the fact though, since -internationally- "Minority" films have a relatively poor record at the box office.
I know I can't wait to be unable to walk in a store without being visually assaulted by pink plastic crap with her face (along with the rest of the mostly white "rainbow of princesses") on it.
...Maybe that is the whole recipe of life, is to be in on the joke. Because life is a joke and if you're not in on it you're out.
But if you're in on it, you can make it." - Vincent Price

It's strange the way minority groups are portrayed in the media by the flag-bearers of traditionally-held perfection. I occasionally buy Cosmopolitan magazine, and they're pretty bad 'skinny is good' offenders. About 3 months ago they published an interview with a +-size model, complete with a few pictures. Sound good? Confidence-boosting for overweight girls? The product of a supportive feminine mindset? Not quite. The interview itself was pretty good, quite affirming for girls who aren't skinny, and we need more of that, I think. But the pictures weren't up to much at all. The model was wearing mostly black clothes and standing against a black background so you couldn't see her silouhette. It was pretty blatant that she was being hidden. In some images, she was too close to the camera for the viewer to get any meaningful context of her and the background (again, presumably to hide her size). One or two might also have been slightly blurred. I don't remember dynamic shots being particularly popular for images of their small models. There was a certain furtive quality to the pictures overall; I felt disappointed for the model.
So yes. A lot of these top-of-the-tree media companies want to be seen to include the minority groups without wanting to show anything that might be seen as imperfect, and the hypocrisy can still shine through. It's a shame. I wish Cosmo had bitten the bullet, personally. After all, with all the classic 'perfect' images in their magazine, including in the issue with the overweight model, they hardly had the same problem as Disney with their black poster-girl, did they?

When PIXAR's John Lasseter was hired by Disney as a Chief Creative Officer, he helped put the finishing visual touches on Bolt during its early stages, then suggested Disney go back to what they were really good at, and pulled The Princess and the Frog back from the dead.
Believe it or not...

None of those were actually hand-drawn in the literal sense (i.e., pencils and paper and cels). Dunno about SpongeBob, but definitely not ATHF or The Simpsons Movie (in fact, The Simpsons Movie doesn't even look at all like the show if you know what to look for; it's much fancier animation). Probably a better term to use would be "2D animation".
And that's the pedantry for today.
