So I decided to take MaRaMaTSG's advice and start a single thread for all my Sonic fan work. I may archive my other Sonic fan works here at a later time, but for now, this is where my New Art will be going.

To start us off, a pic that requires a bit of backstory: one of my deviantART friends posted this pic recently, and I enjoyed it so much I got their permission to do my own version of it. The result:

New piece, this one titled "Legacy".



Sally bears a pretty big burden as Princess and leader of the Freedom Fighters, but I think perhaps the biggest thing of all weighing on her shoulders is the memory of her parents. I've always imagined that, happy though she may have been with them, the Royal Parents might not have been quite as attentive and warm with her as we might think...

Ii've been curious, we've not seen so much of your lovely work of late. I admit that there is a great sense of considered emotion and weight behind much of your artwork - it has that pleasant sense of seriousness without entirely losing some of that humor and cartoonish qulaity of SatAM itself. Certainly I enjoy that last picture of Rotor - a logical topic, and one that bears an interesting amount of implications, as I see it; your composition is also wonderful - multiple forms of challenging posture and symbolism.

If possible, it would be good to see more of your work soon. (Then again, I should speak for myself as well; I haven't had entirely as much time as I once did for sketching.) In any instance, I am wishing you well in your current efforts, whatever they might be.

Anyway, the reason you haven't seen much of my work lately is because things have been very busy on my end as of late and I haven't had as much time or energy to draw as I usually do. However, I'm hopeful that'll change soon, so keep an eye out for more stuff from me soon.

It's been FAR too long since I updated this thread. Still, better late than never, right?

This new piece is called "Cornered".



This time, we've got Bunnie, hunted by a duo of SWATBots on the outskirts of Robotropolis. Of course, don't forget: no animal is quite as dangerous as one with its back to the corner...especially when they've got super-strong Robot limbs.

Bunnie looks smaller than she should be. I don't know if that's intentional, but it looks really cool! It makes the SWATbots look for foreboding and gives the piece a sense of doom and overwhelming obstacles. But every obstacle can be defeated, and by the look on Bunnie's face, it appears like she's gonna try anyway.

As for proportions, the SWATBots used in this pic are based off the larger Shadow-bot models used briefly in the Archieverse, so that might explain why Bunnie's size seems a bit smaller in comparison.

Ah. I never read the Archie comics, so I wouldn't know. In any case, the size proportions work in the piece's favor.

Ah, it's excellent to see more of your work, Gojira.

What strikes me first, oddly, is not the SWAT/Shadow-Bots, nor their difference in porportion, but the division of colors you've chosen, and the effectiveness of your perspective. I find one of the most important aspects of this are the radial clouds which hint at the skyward vanishing point of the image.

Building on the layered aspect of the figures, the metal overhang of twisted steel adds plenty of atmospheric tensity to the image, as well as a great deal of symbolism - given the context of the impending likely battle, the presence of metal and technology as a deciding factor, and the war-torn aspect of Robotropolis.

While there is a sense of stoic power behind the 'bots, you've easily captured the living, spirited tensity and ferocity of Bunnie in this image. Leaving the moment hanging, it is just as likely that she may not be detected by the seeking 'bots, but we are ever so inclined to violence, now aren't we? (As an additional note, somehow the blue, metallic shades, along with the lurid sky, seem to blend into the combinant purple shade which emphasizes Bunnie. Alluding to that previous state of symbolism, it is an interesting composition in that the blending of oppressive steel and wracked nature/life fit well into the context of Bunnie's own history and character.)

Again, excellent work. Your pictures are most enjoyable and characteristic every time, Gojira.

It's interesting that you so liked the layering and background, as those are traits I often find myself struggling with in a picture. Also, while it's true that by the end I saw a more agressive interpretation of Bunnie's likely actions, originally, my intent was more in line with yours, that she was hiding.

Your artwork is progressing rapidly, so far as I can see. Although I do not use color in my artwork often, if at all, I can see how your own use of it is often very bold and open to many interesting forms of interpretation, such as in the case of your last work.

Best of luck in your future projects. Like many here, I look forward to more. (I've my own small projects as you know, namely this sketch of the Hall of Judgement, at the moment. The perspective and details are rather damning.)

Also, I forgot to add in my previous comment, about the sky: I owe a good deal of the inspiration for the sky's moody design to that of the atmospheric, always-crimson sky of Gotham City used in Batman: The Animated Series.

Back again, this time with a pic I call "A Visit to Castle Acorn".


As all too often happens, my coloring materials betrayed me, thus the less-than-stellar sky. Still, I'm pretty pleased with how it came out overall.

I've had this image in my head a long while now, with Sonic, showing off as usual to impress Sally, and Sally, touched by the gesture while also amused at his antics.

This new pic, called "King Trumps God", is based on an RP I'm involved with. The basic idea is that a newly revived Enerjak is having an epic and intense showdown with Elias.

That's a pretty sick drawing. I haven't seen anyone use the energy waves thing in a long time. (Granted I don't look at drawings a great deal) So what is this special gift you mentioned on dA?
