@  furrykef : (25 July 2015 - 03:35 AM)

When was that? Depending on when it was, it might have been a DNS issue. Those should be gone now.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 10:10 PM)

Red said he couldnt get one

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

I recently saw the Dragon Ball Evolution movie, and I agree with the Dragon Ball fans that it ruin the image to one of the most common action anime of all time.

The reason why my avatar is a screengrab of the Anime King Picollo is cause the one in the movie looked like he went into the wrong wardrobe.

I can list several things wrong with the movie, but I don't want to bore people with my opinion on why they shouldn't of changed the idea of the story too much.

My rating is a D, cause it's no where as good as the anime was. The only way to enjoy it is to invite two friends and mock the movie while watching it as if we were trapped on the Satelite of Love.
My motto "Watch as much anime as possible" that way you can impress other anime fans.

X2. X-Men the one where the brain enhancer tries to kill everyone. The machine is conviently too powerful imo. Good for what it was so I guess I should see the Last Stand once.

B- or + depending on how much you like the characters.

C+ or B-

Very "cute", so it would depend if that would turn you off or not. I enjoyed it, so my vote is B-. Interesting stylistic choice to have absolutely no computer animation assistance for the effects shots. Even the effects shots were hand drawn on cels. Kind of a throw back to 20 years ago, but I've always considered those the "good old days" in animation anyway. So I really liked that stylistic choice.

Pshh! They had no technology back then. They barely show the aliens. Video games were better.

District 9
A+

*****

It's easily the best alien movie in the past 10 years, but that isn't saying much seeing as how the "best ones" in the past 10 years were the Men in Black movies and the long-dead Alien vs Predator series.

But seriously, it was nearly a masterpiece in the genre. I'd even go as far as to say it is a masterpiece. It has everything in there that you'd want in a good movie.

The character development was good, and even a little unconventional for live-action films in that the character development was even reflected in the character design of the main character.

It had three opposing groups at each others throats in the movie, rather than the conventional two. You had the MNU, the black market, and the alien race all at odds against one another in a well crafted "war triangle". And then you throw in the main character trying to achieve his own agenda, and ultimately changing both his agenda and the agenda of the others around him.

And it explored all of these elements in a carefully handled collage of traditional filmmaking techniques and "Frontline Investigation" documentary styles.
I believe in what I want to believe in, you believe in what you want to believe in, so when someone wants to believe in something, no one will know what to believe!

lol, someone actually responded to my Aliens review. Wonder how Telgin would've handled it? And yeah, I hated the lack of aliens, just like 2 or more hours of boring human characters.

Star Trek: Nemesis is B- and that's generous.

Could have gave it another kind of 'B' but there were still plotholes and mistakes. I mean 'the usual' like how Shinzon's ship wouldn't tow the Enterprise upon moving but Shinzon himself has a bad ass ship, it's a bad ass plot, but he's a whimpy villian who decides to die too conviently.

If you like action of course you saw it. It's also Trek. But what will kill you, if you notice details, is not Shinzon but all the plot pits he leaves.

Phantom Racer: C+. Despite being a Syfy channel movie, it actually has some good moments and a coherant storyline. Though, for the most part it's kinda a bad mesh of Christine and The Wraith. If they were going for a scary Christine-style ending, they failed in that part, too... The crushed car in a stack of crushed cars falling down is just kinda funny. Also, if they did anything with the credits, that was completely lost by Syfy's promotion of itself and shrinking/muting of the credits immediatly after the cars fall over.

The Evil Dead - B+
Very cool and almost designed to be riffed. Ash is a pussy, though. Also, like when the zombies pretend to turn back into humans it's so predictable that Ash should've been all "Oh, now that is not cool," and instead he's "OMG! ALIVE!"

Brain Dead - A
Fucking. Awesome. I didn't even know it was possible to take people turning into zombies and make it comedic (Shaun of the Dead was about the survivors, not zombies at a dinner table). And it all climaxes with a lawn mower tearing up hundreds of zombies to the point where the main character is skating on blood. And how come stop motion effects can look more realistic than super futuristic digital computer shit?
This is a legally binding sentence.

District 9. C-

Entertaining, but ultimately aimless. Its paper-thin plot didn't help either. The main character changes his heart almost immediately, despite being entirely self-serving for a majority of the film. You don't see him evolve slowly and naturally, he just goes from knocking Christopher out in order to steal his ship, to saving his life five minutes later.

And what was the overarching point of this film? All artsy-fartsy films of this sort possess some semblance of a half-witted moral. District 9 is all a metaphorical allusion to civil rights issues, but that particular element is shallow and has little real weight on the story. Not once do the characters ever reflect upon this problem.

Thank God they did away with the cheesy documentary-style progression halfway through the film; I would have fallen asleep if they hadn't.

I would have been better off seeing Harry Potter for a decent story; and I find it positively hilarious that critics enjoy mostly simple movies such as this one, while panning complex plots. Is this really where our world is heading? Atrophy?

Dude... Lighten up. It's only a movie...

The Gladiator (1986). A. Not to be confused with all the actual gladiator movies out there. This one's about a mechanic whose brother is killed by a psycho with a James Bond-style black charger (it looks like the General Lee's evil twin [the GL was originally a black car, before the Dukes painted it orange]) with some wicked tire shredders. After recuperating from the wreck and taking a while to ponder what to do with his life, he decides to go vigilante and fixes up his pickup into something that would make the A-Team drool, including putting a grappling hook launcher in the bed and blades to cut off the car's tire shredders. He then runs several drunk drivers off the road and eventually finds the guy who killed his brother. A nice chase/showdown ensues, resulting in the destruction of the badguy's car. Rather than just let him burn, he pulls the badguy out of the car and hands him over to the cops. It's actually surprisingly human, for a revenge movie... One of those lost gems...

Inglorious Basterds: ***** (5 Stars)

Saw the new Tarantino film on Friday. Big Tarantino fan, Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are two of my favourite films, but I had low expectations for this, the trailers didn't convince me. As the release date got nearer and I heard him speaking about it and a few favourable reviews from critics I went in with hopes it would at least be good. But it is amazing. The reason the trailers didn't fully convince me is obvious now – they didn't show any of the best bits in the film as so many trailers do these days. I'm not sure any scenes after the first 30 minutes made it to the trailers and it's so refreshing to see the movie for the first time, when you actually see the movie for the first time… if you get my drift.

It's typical Tarantino, minus the disjointed chronology (although it is split into chapters), so it's violence, lengthy character driven storyline, a bit of dark humour and lots and lots of dialogue heavy scenes. Fortunately he's one of the best at writing dialogue, I didn't find any of them boring, they were as, if not more, entertaining as the action scenes, in my opinion. Of course if Tarantino isn't your thing, this probably won't change your mind.

May not interest some of you, but as a film student, I'll also give a huge nod to the way it's shot, the cameras angles and the general pacing and edit of the final cut. I really can't think of anything bad to say about it. Definitely go see it if you still can.

The Street Fighter!

Ratty told me about this movie and I decided to watch it. I must say though, the plot, narration and characterizations are a clusterfucked mess, and I have no idea what the hell is going on half the time. I quickly got over that though as the plot slowly started to click with me, that and the fact that the fight scenes are actually pretty good. It is a decent martial arts romp with a bit of the 'ol ultra violence for flavour.

It's on public domain now, so even if you don't like it, there is nothing lost.

Verdict : 6.5/10

Return of the Street Fighter!

This is the sequel to the above movie. The plot lifts most of the elements from the previous movie with some minor changes for continuity's sake. The narration is a little bit more clear this time-round and has more of the good guys besides Sonny Chiba kicking the asses of bad guys, which is a plus. On the downside, they laid the flashbacks on pretty thick, even going so far as to lift flashback scenes directly from the first and inserting them into more or less the same position of this film. besides that, it's slightly better than the first one. It is free too, now that it's public domain.

Verdict : 6.8/10
