...what...the hell...
(Please note that VHS is a Rocky Horror newbie, and did not understand the consequences of watching such a pervertedly entertaining film)

42: The Story of Jackie Robinson- 9/10.
Great movie. Historically accurate (minus one or two spots) story about the legendary Jackie Robinson. Harrison Ford played Branch Rickey fantastically well and Chadwick Boseman was phenominal

Oh yeah...I forgot to put this up earlier
Frozen: 8/10
It's good. I like it. It just isn't as good as everyone kept trying to make me believe.
Also the song everyone says is really good/won't get out of their head I barely remembered. The song I had stuck in my head was "Love is an Open Door". Ah well.

My rating: 8/10
An interesting and moving look at the design of Japanese aircraft during WWII and the guy behind it all. Like most historical films, some events were probably a bit romanticized, but that isn't the issue; the main focus should be on making an entertaining story. And the film certainly succeeded at doing just that (as they usually do). In fact, it was quite inspiring. The ending was a bit sudden, but I was still touched by just how beautiful it was.
Overall, a good film to end Miyazaki's directing career on. Let's just hope Studio Ghibli can keep making amazing films without him.

-Stalingrad (1993): 8.2/10
This 1993 German anti-war movie is maybe not the best war movie i have ever seen, but it's still a great anti-war movie nontheless. Set in 1942, a group a the 6th Army division of the German army is sent to Stalingrad with the typical promise of a quick victory agaisnt the Soviet. Yet, at this point everyone was thinking that....but the reality will show is ugly face, when the division will face much more resistance that they could ever anticipated. The film is set in two arc, the first one is mainly about the battle of Stalingrad itself and the second one is the direct aftermatch, when the Soviet is starting to push the German out of the city during the winter.
Some part of the film seem to drag a bit more than it should, but nothing too bad. But the production value really make it worth it. Even though this movie is from 1993, the Blu-ray version of this film (which is the version i own) could make you belive that it was made last year or something. The combat scene are very realistic in their presentation and are convincing. And thanks to the high defenition render of the Blu-ray version, the video quality make it look like a brand new film. For those who saw the 1998 ''Saving Private Ryan'' can have an idea of what the battle look like in action in ''Stalingrad''. But despite this, Stalingrad seem to be really forgotten, since it was probably a foreign film and everyone seem to only remember Saving Private Ryan. That is sad, because Stalingrad is in some aspect better than SPR, but no one have seen it to remember why. It's kinda like Dark City, which came before The Matrix, but Matrix stole the spotlight and no one remember Dark City anymore.
But back to Stalingrad: Huge production value that show the war from the German point of view. It's a harsh, violent movie that definitely don't have good ending....but it's really worth it.
Warning: do not confuse it with the 1989 Soviet movie of the same name, or the 2013 Russian movie (also with the same name). I would really like to watch the Soviet version, but there's no subtitle (at least not as far as i know). It's sad, knowing it was made by the same producer who made the excellent war serie ''Liberation''.
If my english can look like crap, don't kill me...please? French is my native language!

FUS needs some merchandising love too.
Howl's Moving Castle - 10/10
My first real exposure to anime. Sure, I had watched Pokemon and Spirited Away, but I watched this film at an old enough age to truly understand the art form. Probably my favorite Miyazaki film, tied with Kiki. And if I ever seem unimpressed by cool steampunk stuff, blame this film. Nothing can beat that castle, animated or not.
(Fun fact: Contrary to popular belief, Christian Bale's infamous Batman voice was initially used in the English dub of this film)

Best thing about this movie is the art design by William Joyce.

Captain America (1990)
Y'know what I love to do when a big budget Marvel Comics movie comes out and is getting rave reviews? Go back into that dirty, dark corner before Marvel found true big screen success with X-Men (2000) and see what cinematic crapfests studios were putting out of their characters which Marvel were okay with as long as the studio paid up.
And you know your movie is gonna be in good hands when it's being produced by one of the two guys behind Cannon Films, the same studio that brought us such cinematic turds like Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987) and Masters of the Universe (1987) and who at one time very nearly had a Spider-Man movie made in the mid-late 80s, and by "nearly" I mean they had sets and costumes all ready for it and a sequel to Masters of the Universe when Cannon couldn't afford to pay Marvel or Mattel for the rights and instead used the sets and costumes for both movies and made a little movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme called Cyborg (1989).
And so we got Captain America, a movie which is very bland, very cardboard, very cheap and so very, very boring. A movie which sets the first 20 minutes or so during World War II where Steve Rogers has... Polio... And a slight limp. He gets pumped with STEROIDS! or something and becomes Captain A'MURICA!
... So has a little girly slapping fight with Red Skull, gets strapped to a rocket aimed at Washington DC, is able to knock the rocket off course while this little fat nerdy kid is able to take a super clear photograph of the Captain strapped to the otherside of the rocket with a 1940s camera and then the Captain crashes in Alaska or something. By this point in the movie I'm already finding it difficult to pay attention or care.
Then it's some time in the 90s and the Captain is found in Alaska, gets thawed out and then runs all the way to the Candian boarder or something. There's a fight scene with some of Red Skull's guys while the little fat nerdy kid has become Ned Beatty and who rescues the America man because everybody seems to find him all of a sudden after spending 50 years in a block of ice.
Steve goes home, finds his old sweetheart looks exactly the same as she did in the 40s just with old lady make up on, has married and has a daughter which Rogers gets a boner for. Because if you can't love your old sweetheart because she's wearing old lady make up, then fuck her daughter!
a few minutes after this point I fell asleep.
Could I recommend it? Well, if you like looking at Marvel's early attempts and like to point and laugh at them, then yeah.
Rating: 3/10
Captain America? More like Craptain America.
"The Devil Inside is the new scam from director William Something Something. The movie stars actors and was edited on a computer. Somewhere. This movie is the latest film in a series of very low budget films designed to look like real movies! And be released in theaters to make a quick buck via a horribly off kilter budget to profit ratio that the general public seem to be stupidly unaware of! These films use to be called 'direct to video' but now they are called 'first run features'. These films then vanish from the theaters, like a rapist leaving the scene of a crime." - Mike Stoklasa of RedLetterMedia

12 Years a Slave.
What you would call a super-bummer. But I liked it. My favorite scene is where Paul Giamatti reminds Benedict Cumberbatch that his sympathy is useless because -- goddammit -- he is buying PEOPLE after all. And then Chiwotel plays the violin to drown out somebody's cries of anguish. An incredibly constructed little metaphoric microcosm.
