@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

The Thing (2011): A-. This is perty much the apex of the capacity of prequels. And one has to consider the fact that my scale goes down to Z, intead of just down to F. So on my scale, there's less distance between an A+ and A- than on many other people's scales. My biggest gripe is that they didn't actually uncover the ship from the ice. The other gripe is my genral gripe against CGI: You can tell it's CGI because it still looks kinda cartoonish and they physics isn't quite right. But they ofset these by showing off some really interesting Thing-Outs and Thing designs, and solidifying some of my theories on the Things. And they do transition the movie directly into the intro to Carpenter's version.

Tron Legacy: D+.
Overall, it's a fairly good movie. And it's got some really good music. But the detractions are big enough to knock it down a few pegs. I wasn't a big fan of the original, but figured I'd check it out, since it was on one of the movie channels I get. I definitely wouldn't pay money to see this movie. But it might make for an interesting movie night selection. It would certainly be fun to MST.

Super 8: D-. Starts off good, but really gets too character focused and has a rather ET-style ending. I've seen worse, but this one really isn't worth spending money on.

The Thing (2011)
My thoughts are similar to Vlads... The CGI does stand out, but the creature designs are still quite interesting.

I Agree completely i just think it would be better if they threw in some more parctical effects behind the CGI to seem more real

Carnage - I've got to give this one 5 stars! I got to see this at the cinema during a film festival, although it's not going to be available until February. Even then it's going to be a bit niche. Well-worth digging out though, if you can find it.

The premise: a child wants to be part of another child's gang. He goes and asks. The leader says no, the child gets angry and starts a fight with the leader, the leader hits the child in the face with a stick.

The film itself: the parents of each child have got together to work out how to manage the situation, but given that they're talking about their children and have very different ideas on how to raise kids, they switch between being overly polite to each other to really getting the claws out. About 2/3 of the way into the film they start drinking, and that's where it gets really fun!

Captain America: The First Avenger - B+

Real great film, definitely one of my favorite Marvel films. It had a few clichés here and there but not that frequent that it would ruin the movie. The ending was also pretty obvious if you read the comic before the movie, but thats a good thing in a way, lol. Good stuff though, check it out if you haven't already.

This is what I get for watching old movies at Grandma's house....

The Long, Long Trailer (1954) Starring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
Rating: C
If you are an I Love Lucy fan maybe you can tolerate the movie better then I can. Clearly I am not. It had it's fun elements, but it was mostly filled with Lucille Ball being a spoiled, whiny brat who can con her recently married husband into doing stupid things, even to the point of wanting to break up with him because she nearly got them both killed.
Now it wasn't all bad, it had its moments. However it ultimately comes down to it being I Love Lucy the Road Trip.

Donovan's Reef (1963) John Wayne, Lee Marvin, Jack Warden, and Elizabeth Allen
Rating: B-
If you are looking for a slightly different Christmas Movie or you are looking for a John Wayne movie, here it is.
It is pretty good for an older movie. The story is good (though at some points rushed) there are some pretty good brawls, and has your stereotypical John Wayne Humor.
There is also deals with Racial Bigotry, Greed of Business, not judging by the cover, and hypocrisy.
There is also a Christmas setting, however not in the usual way.

Cowboys & Aliens: A+. This is one of those movies where they've done a really good job all around. They took what could've been a disaster of an idea and really made a great movie out of it. It really shows what can be done when the people making the movie have their priorities straight and set out to do it right. It nicely bends the western with an action/sci-fi tone. And the aliens aren't just CGI. They brought in Legacy (formerly Stan Winson's Creature Effects), to consult with and work on the alien design. Plenty of nice practical effects with some GGI tweaking. Also, plenty of great actors. I'm at a loss trying to find fault with the movie. This is one those movies that'll restore your faith in modern movie makers.

Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows - B+

That may just be me being biased as a Holmes fan- but I think the choice of Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law as the two leads really make for great chemistry, both in this film and in the first one. That couple with the fact that we have Moriarti as the villain just made the Holmes fan in me giddy. The action sequences were good, the witty banter was excellent, and even though you know the "who"- trying to figure out the "how" throughout the film is great fun. ^^ I admittedly liked the first film better, but as sequels go- this one was really good.

Also- Holmes disguises (particularly the chair) are always good for a laugh. xD

I haven't seen the movie yet, so I don't know for sure. However I have read the comic it is based on and I heard they don't follow the same script.

I'd never heard of the comic. I've never seen the comic, so I wouldn't know about that. The special features on the DVD state that they took the basic idea and said "how do we make the best possible movie from this idea?". And then they did. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a good movie. And moreso to people who like westerns, action movies, science fiction, and alien movies.

Courageous - A

As far as Christian films go, or even independent films, this one is one of the best. The story and writing is great, balancing the serious topic of fatherhood but while still bringing in lots of humor and comedy throughout. The acting is also surprisingly decent, compared to Sherwood Pictures' previous films, lol. I'm not good at describing movies but this is one you should check out; its got a lot of humor, great writing, and delivers a powerful message. trust me when I say it's really worth your time.
