[Silicate]

Greetings to those here.

Though this is only one of the two intended leather bracers, I decided to include this basic shot here. These are a gift intended for an ill friend of mine; hopefully they will lift his spirits.

Basic 6 oz. vegetable-tanned cowhide, three tones of dye, rivets, grommets, three types of steel stamps, and about 10,000 strikes from a polymer mallet. (And some latigo lace.)

Thank you for the compliments, each of you. I am hardly familiar with armoring and leathercraft in general; I am glad to hear the thoughts or regards of others.

I was not tracking the time, but although this is only the first bracer, I'd wager each individual one takes about 12 or so hours per piece. In particular, the stamping clearly takes up much time, each strike usually taking up more more than one additional millimeter of space. The dying is a close second, requiring many layers, and some limited dye mixing and diluting with water, and application - waiting for it to dry, and brushing on more for some of the two-toned areas of the stylized flames.

Is it your own design, or part of a cosplay?

This is merely my own design, chosen for it's relative simplicity. As it was meant as a gift to my friend, a collector of all manner of action figures or figurative sculptures. I thought that perhaps something more archaic/basic in appearance - though with a modernized detail such as the stylized flames - would be most appreciable, as opposed to attempting to replicate this character's armor/emblem or that.

The simple designs are often times the best. The three basic colors you have going in the piece really look bold against each other. I like the little details in the black material and how the solid dark red compliments the color, while the bright solid yellow stand out against it. I also like the circular shapes contrasting against the angular, almost fiery shapes.

Thank you, FreakyFilm. I share much the same logic; an over-complex design for such a basic piece of armor would not function well, in this case. My purpose in it was not to produce an outstanding artwork in the form of a bracer. Due to the borders and surfaces of the item, and considering the tools involved, the general range of fine, readily-discernable detail is only about half a centimeter. Leather dye is not paint, and does not handle in the same fashion, and I also have nothing with which to contrast the level of detail in this item as would be compared to whatever else one is wearing ... In my view, all designs are a matter of context and surroundings; with so many unknowns, a basic, durable piece works well enough.

Just more leatherwork, mostly to see how thinner leather handles tooling, and also to test how durable dyed and painted leather is... Of which said testing may take a while to begin showing considerable effects of wear and travel/use.

Another swift work, one made for a friend. It is intended to be a belt-mounted pouch/case - thus the wide strap so that it remains stable- but it could as easily be tied to other objects or surfaces, hence the inclusion of higher rectangle-rings for said tying, so that the case remains balanced. (As opposed to tying it solely onto the belt slot, which would place it's hanging center of gravity rather low, making it awkward to carry and rest while holding objects.)

I had dyed and applied artificial aging gel to the outer surfaces in order to add some variety; the tooled markings are only based on an aesthetic, and no intended asemic meaning.

It occurs to me that it appears rather Orcish. Perhaps Dwarven. I wonder what other interpretations some may have?
