I dunno. I always liked this one. Kinda. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either.
Gotta love how that Red Hood seems to be the world's most perfect disguise!

What most interested me were the details of the Robotnik's main power generators - I've always been a fan of not only the dark, if not lurid, colorations of the industrial settings, but also the efficient and strangely organic designs often found. I don't know whether it is an acual aesthetic or a function of necessity, but it does add a hidden layer of interest to the factor of the conversion of Mobotropolis to Robotropolis, or even some subtle style of Robotnik's designs.
The 'classic/gamey' setup of multiple racing pods, all merely recolors, was amusing. I found the Cheetah-bot rather well designed, although it's animation ('wheel-legs' and static body) somewhat dissapointing - I would have liked to see more flexibility. Given the extremely high speeds of movement, this alternative would seem a little goofy if animated 'realistically' based on felinoid running and the flexibility and balance of a longer body.... Still, merely a consideration. Later, the robot makes a suitingly threatening companion to Robotnik, a slinking, sharp grace to balance his heavy (if not ponderous) rage. Too bad we never hear about it again. I could see it having huge specialist/military/scouting applications, possibly.
By far, the highlight of this episode was the instance of the power-shutdown and Robotnik's eyes lighting up menacingly, only to be turned on a cowering Snivley. It brought an air of increased threat, capability, artificiality, and expression (of anger). One must love the complexities of the villain.
What I found somewhat disagreeable was the instance of Bunnie and Sally somehow drawing back all of that generator belt in order to slow Antoine (it seemed too elastic, somehow). In addition, one would think that an instance of death-by-generator-gears would at least compel Antoine to crawl forward a bit, as opposed to cowering frozen. Capture by the enemy is one matter, actual death is another, no?

But on the episode itself, it wasn't the greatest. This is what a "normal" episode of SatAM would look like, if there ever was one. Not too much sneaking around, not a whole lot of clever plans from Sally. Just an entertaining excuse to have Sonic run really fast.
The design for Sonic's racing opponent rocks. It says "speed", it says "menace", it says "threat", and it doesn't even have to move to do it. The simple fact that it does and becomes a formidable racing opponent for Sonic fulfills what you would expect from that design.
Although Sally seemed a little absent minded in this episode. Just the fact that she thinks of the the fact there might be a back-up generator after they execute the first plan seems a little out of character for Sally. Then again, this is episode 6 of season 1 (episode 7 if you count the pilot episode), so she's still a little new at this and may still be learning things about strategic planning along the way. After all, how many 14-15 year old girls do you know that can do half the guerilla-style war plans she come up with.
Nitpicky moment here. When Sally peaks around the corner and says: "This is too weird, no Swatbots!", she saying it with Bunnie's voice. *oops!*
Believe it or not...

Ditto. This was one of the episodes that made up my first impression of Satam, so it's effective at that. Even if the plot may be thin it does a good job of establishing the tone of the rest of the series.
The cheetah bot was cool, although not much came of it. Since it can compete with Sonic's speed the technology could be put to good use elsewhere- Metal Sonic anyone?
Lots of good lines in this ep.. "Nastier than a one-eyed snake", "Ze duck is gone?", "You're really starting to tick me off!" "Huh? I'm not even wearing my watch"
And as a Bunnie/Ant shipper I loved the "my little muffin" bit where she pinches Ant's cheek. So adorable.

Let's see...
I agree about the conveyer belt part. I mean, geez, Antoine, get up and run at least!
I also really like the part with Bunnie calling Antoine a 'little muffin'. Very cute.
I like the beginning where Sonic's like 'Maybe he dosen't have a backup generator' and seconds later the whole city lights up C'mon you guys, Robotnik probably has a backup generator FOR the backup generator.
I have a facination with Robotropolis. I really would love to see detailed maps of the different sections of the city. I dunno, I just think its design is really neat. Something about the place makes me want to explore it, well, if it was cleared of hostile robots beforehand, I guess. *cough* Ok, ending that dorkiness...
I like the Snively moments of this episode. His traps did come dangerously close to offing the miserable hedgehog. I always had the (unfounded) idea that he built the racing bot. I don't know why... maybe it's that I don't think Robotnik would test the speed of his own robot first... he'd probably just assume his work was perfect from the get-go. And since it was Sniv's plan, and Sniv's traps, I also seeing the robot being part of the package he'd present to Uncky Julian. I also like the mean twist of Snively's robot 'turning agaisnt' him at the end there where it strolls alongside his very, very angry uncle. (I too like the contrast of that sleek robot agaisnt Robotnik's bulk, as Silicate said.)
I like Sniv's sinster moment of 'I know the feeling, sir' with the creepy-ass lighting on his face. LOL
This episode was also the one that from early-on, really drove it into my mind that poor Snively was being badly physically abused by Robotnik. From reading fanfics, not all people believe Sniv got more than a rough shaking or whatnot, which is about all that SatAM ever showed. (In Heads or Tails, ironically the goofiest episode, you do hear Sniv get punched or something offscreen at the end...) The ending, where Robotnik comes up to him so meancingly, screaming horrible things at him, and how Sniv is so scared he can't even talk...? Poor Snivvy-poo. I'd hate to see what happened to him after that point

It's clearly a trap and Robotnik has no intention of keeping his word. The FFs should avoid Robotropolis for awhile because of tighter security making it difficult to sneak around.
It has some good points and fun moments but the overall idea of the episode gives me the feeling that I'd only watch it for a reason other than the plot like the design of the city or character interactions.
It isn't the worst episode so it gets a couple points and it reminds me of a better example of Roadrunner vs. Cyote.[(sp)There's some words you can never spell].
