@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 11:25 AM)

Also I still have to figure out how to set up our e-mail accounts on the new host.

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 08:19 AM)

As soon as I figure out how to restore it. Sorry, I know I said it'd be done by now, but I didn't expect to have to put up with this DNS crap and other issues that popped up.

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

So when's the black theme coming back??

@  Uncle Ben : (24 July 2015 - 07:56 AM)

"Should"

@  furrykef : (24 July 2015 - 07:27 AM)

That DNS took longer to propagate properly than I thought it would. *Now* we should be back for good, though.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:48 PM)

Or it might be because Bluehost *finally* got around to that server wipe (one week after we'd asked for it) and that wiped out our DNS settings. I'm not sure which and I don't really care. In any case, we've severed our last ties with Bluehost, so this will not happen again.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 08:08 PM)

Looks like Bluehost yanked our DNS since our hosting account expired. That's why the site went down a while ago. But as you can see, it's fixed now.

@  Misk : (23 July 2015 - 04:55 PM)

No, they do not.

@  furrykef : (23 July 2015 - 04:27 AM)

The goggles do nothing?

@  Misk : (22 July 2015 - 05:50 PM)

My eyes.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 12:24 PM)

Looks like forum uploads might have been broken since last night. That should be fixed now too.

@  furrykef : (22 July 2015 - 01:33 AM)

Heh, whoops! Server went down for a few mins when I borked the config. Looks like it's back up now.

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 09:09 PM)

It looked like a napkin

@  ILOVEVHS : (21 July 2015 - 09:04 PM)

Fan-fuckin-tastic.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:25 PM)

As for the beaver picture while the forum was down, I think Tim drew it. On a napkin.

@  furrykef : (21 July 2015 - 08:24 PM)

No kiddin' about that "Finally!", Shadow. I am *so mad* at Bluehost for never responding to our support ticket. I submitted it early Friday morning and they *still* haven't answered it!

@  Uncle Ben : (21 July 2015 - 06:37 PM)

Maybe he did that himself

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:25 PM)

Say, who made the cute picture of Beaver Chief?

@  Shadow : (21 July 2015 - 05:24 PM)

Finally!

@  RedMenace : (21 July 2015 - 05:02 PM)

Woooo! The site's back up! Three cheers for Kef!

oh good grief Sonic Unleashed is NOT THAT BAD. granted it's not exactly the most innovative game of the century but it's not a terrible game.

i myself think Sonic Unleashed is a rather good game. the daytime stages are an outright blast (seriously complaining that all you do is boost... well what else is sonic going to do, his games are meant to be... fast). and the nighttime stages are rather decent as well. not exactly fun in a barrel but not horribly tedious. and the bosses are way fun too.

now all in all i'd say the story suucked something fierce. but long gone are the days i listen to a sonic game's story for entertainment. some of the scenes are amusing (such as when eggman get's bashed in the face with a rock and his own robot laughs at him)

so seriously unless you have played it then please try to be fair and NOT listen to the reviewers which bash every sonic game that comes out

Player thoughts: I did not like it.

i'm sure there are but there seem to be an equal number of people who are saying "this game looks awful, i'm not even going to try and formulate my own opinion" and turn their back on it. just irks me i guess ^^;

He wasn't complaining "that all you do is boost" (in fact he seemed rather off put by the slow pace before you reached "the game part of the game") but that the levels and speed were designed badly, so as to be more frustrating than fun with all the first timers traps you have to simply play through and memorize not to get killed at the high speed. In other words complaining that the boosting was done badly. (and in fact, ironically, became tedious)

But then what? The camp is pretty squarely divided between those who are tired of giving umpteenth chances and the Sonic apologists. Anyhow Yahtzee doesn't bash every sonic game that comes out (at least not individually) because this is the first one he's reviewed. ;P

I've not played the game, probably won't anytime soon (if I ever do, I've not played many Sonic games). I'm still waiting to get a current gen system if and when Sly 4 ever comes out X3

Well, all I can say is I like it, I haven't liked a Sonic game since Adventure 2 and even then...that was back at the time, I doubt it would seem very good to me these days...

But yeah, the story is agreed upon by most, even the people who like the game, to be pretty much rubbish, and I agree...

On the bright side...there is a really obvious Blade Runner reference! Made my day when I found it.

I loved the picture of Trilby trying to treat Sonic's 'addiction to Rings' at 1:02.

And it's wereHOG, not werewolf. But I guess I can let that one slide for Trilby's sake. He's been through enough (killed more times than Goku from the Dragonball series).

Honestly though, I didn't think the game was that bad though. But this was still funny to see.

Got it for Christmas and have played it pretty extensively. Personally, it's not AS bad as Yahtzee says, but most of his complaints are accurate. Even in the Wii Version, which reduces the larger, more "Sonic Adventure"-style Hub World from the PS360 version to a series of quick and relatively painless still-image text screens, the game does indeed keep you from playing it for a good long while. It forces you to go through various chats before you can progress, and very often, the only progression you get is a stupid cut-scene!

The Wolfhog stages are also pretty lame. The combat is OK but lacks any kind of lock-on system, making it sloppy and strategyless. The stage designs are pretty poor; there's very little in the way of creative puzzles or clever platforming to make them engaging. Worst of all, the Camera sucks and Wolfhog Sonic is as slippery to control as Shadow was in his self-titled game.

Still, the Day Time stages are mostly pretty fun. If the game was more or less just these stages, it'd be a lot better off. Dunno what Yahtzee's talking about with Sonic going TOO fast, either; I have yet to run into the problems he described. I like that there are various paths you can take through a level, and the various ways you can move, from Boosting to sliding to Drifting, really spice up the gameplay. The nicest thing of all, though, is that the Game tells you what time you need to get a certain grade. This isn't just a welcome change from past Sonic titles, but a welcome change from most Video Games. It's nice to just be able to know what the criteria for a Grade is rather than just try your best and cross your fingers.

All in all, I'd give Sonic Unleashed for the Wii a 7 out of 10, personally; it's one step forward, two steps back, all in all.

Yahtzee's shtick is that he Accentuates the Negative about every game he plays, including the (very few) ones he likes. He gets away with it because he's so spectacularly funny, and there's plenty of nuggets of truth to be found in his bashing. If you want serious, fair game criticism, though, it's best to look elsewhere.

Yahtzee isn't interested in being fair--and frankly I wouldn't watch him if he were!

Hidden nuggets of truth? His criticisms are always pretty valid/pointing out flaws that do/would hamper the experience.

I actually find Sonic Unleashed to be the most enjoyable Sonic game in over a decade, but that wouldn't have anything to do with the banal daytime stages universally lauded by a vast majority of reviewers. Despite the frequent transition to a side-scrolling perspective, this portion of the game still suffers from the irksome scripting that has plagued the series since Sonic Adventure. This renders the challenge void, and the game suddenly becomes effortless. Is this what people are praising? Mindless speed that doesn't even require button inputs half the time? That's not a return to Sonic's roots at all. If anything, the Werehog stages do a better job of that by actually requiring effort.

Well, Yahtzee couldn't let it go. Sonic Unleashed just got his award for "Unsurprisingly Dissapointing Game". Still haven't played it myself, may have to get a gamefly account when I return to the University, but I sense mixed feelings among those gathered here. Well, we can always pray Sonic Team will some day release an undeniably good Sonic game, but the world may end before that happens...

What a lot of people don't seem to take into account...
Look at all the other games out there. Sure, if Sonic Unleashed was the ONLY video game you have ever played, or one of the few, it would be pretty good.
But for someone like me, who has 198 games on his played list... It's definitely one of the ones I would recommend, or even say good things about.
