Zero Punctuation reviews Sonic Unleashed

I never expected Yahtzee to review Sonic Unleashed, but I couldn't help but laugh at how much he bashed it. Has anyone here actually played it? Whether you have or not, what are your opinions on this and Sonic's continuing downward spiral in the video gaming realm?

God forbid that Sega's going to be making Sonic a knight next. The last few Sonic games should have told them their ideas are shit. They just don't get it.

The Sonic Stages can be a blast. Sadly, it takes 3-5 minutes to beat them, and then your thrown into 1-2 Werehog stages, which I have had go up to 45 minutes to complete. Every time it makes you yearn for more Sonic stages.
It's like SEGA figured no one liked the latest Sonic games, so it made the Werehog stages in an attempt to make us actually think "WOW, I MISS PLAYING AS SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!".

The Daytime Sonic gameplay is pretty damn fun, best of any 3D Sonic game I've played, the story is the game's biggest weak point, although it has some humor to keep it from being too tedious...
The Werehog is not nearly as bad as everyone says if you ask me, especially once you learn some of the better combo moves. True they are inferior to the day gameplay, but the game is still at least worth a rent for anyone curious, however I bought it and if I could go back and do it again I would (and I haven't been able to say that with pretty much any console Sonic game in years).
It isn't perfect...but its pretty good, I'd give it an 8/10 myself.

And just so everyone knows, I am talking about the 360 version, I cannot judge the Wii version as I haven't played it.

Really? I kinda figured he'd review one at some point, he mentioned/alluded to it (in reffering to Sonic games in general as an example) in his pro-cynicism review on modern game systems. Yahtzhee is I think hands-down the best humours video game reviewer on the net at the moment, I mean I still like the Nerd and everything, but Yahtzee's just plain more funny (don't watch too many of his video's in the same sitting though X3) people who think this review was good should watch some of his others

I'm pretty sure Yahtzee's talking about the PS360 version too; I know he uses the Wii boxart throughout the review, but the Hub World he describes isn't in the Wii version (thank goodness!).

His passionate description in his SSBB review of Solid Snake viciously snapping Sonic's neck

I was never going to buy the game. I was turned off the moment they showed the run-run-run-and boost 2D gameplay (If they want to do that sort of stuff... then they should've just made Sonic Rush 3), and retooled the 3D sections to be all but Secret Rings-ishly on-rails (SatSR is the first Sonic game that I've played that I did not want to complete). But there's something nagging me that I want to understand, though. It's the disparity between a lot of fans and professional reviewers. Reviewers treat it as Sonic 2006 all over again, while, from what I can tell on the fansite forums, the fans for some reason actually like it for the most part. What are the fans seeing that reviewers aren't? What are the reviewers seeing that the fans aren't?
Another thing that boggles me: It is said amongst most fans that the PS360 version is better because it has more stages and a better balance of hedgehog/werewolf levels... yet somehow, the Wii version is getting higher scores from reviewers?

No...No any Sonic game after Sonic 2 deserves it. Fuck,... Anything Sonic these days deserves to get shot.

Is that supposed to be a bad pun or something? But yes, Sonic and the Black Night will probably prevail in most of our expectations and turn out like crap. Let's tally another one for Sonic Team and Sega, shall we?

Imagine if Sonic 3 & Knuckles was released this gen. Same gameplay, but next gen graphics.
It would fuckin' ROCK.

Well, I mean I know it will suck. But I wonder if it will suck worse than I expected.
