When they picked Kate Mulgrew for the captain role, best move they could have made. The cameos of the old crews, the new alien species. (My fave was the dinosaur one) The crew getting home bit was a little overused, but in the end it all worked out.
Kept my behind in the seat watching every single episode.

Another thing I liked about Voyager is they used Borg a lot more then TNG, although in TNG the Borg were creepy ass.

They had one episode where Species 8472 were disguising themselves as federation officers to make future plans to invade. Funny how so much can go down to affect the Alpha Quadriant, when one is stuck in the Delta Quadrant.

It took the best idea TNG had and just milked it dry(talking about the borg).Janeway was completely unlikable or someone you could relate to.I mean, they are lost out in the middle of nowhere where they dont even know if they will be alive when they drive all the way back and she gets multiple chances to take short cuts home yet...being the selfish bitch decides to stay out in borg territory where her crewmen get killed every other week.
Also, the acting was extremely wooden. They just stood there and EXPLAINED things.Thats all their was in Voyager...just explaining shit in techno babble.Sure, they did that in TNG but it wasn't as bad as Voyager took it to.
Only good thing about it was The Doctor and Seven. They are both awesome.

Tuvock was just a Spock ripoff. He was just a -insert alien char.- for the crew.Seven had a good backstory and her acting helped the character grow, but Tuvock seemed stuck in first gear. His character never grew or became of much notice.
They should have explored Species 8472 some more.Everything about the tone of the show seemed abit patronizing.Everyone on board were lost in space with slim chances to get home in borg space. It's hard to believe their was never anyone panicking or rebelling.
Since they were also in a unknown area of space it would have been good to have tooken advantage of more hostile aliens that were beyond their capabilities of making peace with since every world they went to they always seemed to make friends with.
Lets get some Azathoth in there!

Particulary when the event where Sisco had to do some very -questionable- actions with the stations local taylor Garak to convince the Romulon Empire to come over to the Federation's side.
But, to each their own on what people enjoy.

Surprisingly, it was pretty good.
I don't think I'd made a mistake by not watching it when I was younger, though. DS9 is a lot more character-oriented than TNG was, and I didn't have an appreciation for that sort of drama when I was younger. For instance, one of the best DS9 episodes was when the DS9 crew visit the mirror universe for the first time -- incidentally, I hate the overuse of the mirror universe and such things, but it hadn't been beaten to death yet -- and they see how messed up things are... and it wasn't a straight "mirror universe is evil" flip-flop. We got to see different versions of the characters, not mere inversions. I remember in particular the plight of the mirror Miles O'Brien, who was essentially a slave but didn't (at first) want to escape his plight.
I never did end up watching the whole series -- I haven't seen all of TNG either, though I've seen a good majority of it, I think. They started showing TNG on TNN, but by then I'd kind of lost interest since it didn't fit into the "ritual" I'd already established. Someday I'll have to watch all the Trek stuff I've missed.

One Kef showed me where you can watch all of the original series online (at least in the continental US) for free/legally. :3
And thanks to Dominic I am now more glad than ever I didn't bother to watch the last Star Trek film that came out.

They have a few high-def episodes, too, which have better special effects, etc., but I can't watch 'em on this laptop because the framerate is too low. I'll get my compy back tomorrow and maybe I'll get to watch 'em then.
