Here's how this will work:
This is a thread for all the USEFUL and FREE software on the Internet that you either use or know of. It can antivirus software, firewalls, utility programs, image editors, music editors/players, it doesn't matter. Just as long as it is a FREE program (or has a decent free version of the program), post it in this thread. Please no game demos though. I will ever so often take the added program info from posts and add them to this first post so people won't have to search through everything to find something they could use. I'll also put them in categories so like programs are near each other.
Rules:
1. Post the Program's name.
2. Post the Program's URL.
3. Post what the Program does.
Example: Spybot Search & Destroy, Spyware Detection and Removal.
And if you wish, add or comment on it. Or if you don't have a program to post, you can just comment on a previous poster's addition to the list. What you liked or disliked about. Was it really useful. That kind of thing. No off-topic posts. If you have several programs you wish to be added, go ahead and list them all in your post. I'll add the contributor to the info so people can then look for that Fuser's post for any other information about the program.
No Shareware, Adware, or the like. Freeware only.
I'll start us off.

This new program allows you to play most PC games with a wired or wireless Xbox 360 controller. The site has links to all of the drivers and have forums, help flies, and youtube videos to show you how to get the program up and running in minutes. At the moment they only have support for only a handfull of games but they are all popular ones; Wow, Guild Wars, Half-Life 2, Call of Duty 4, Call of Duty 2, etc. I tryed it out on wow, while it's not suited for PvP or instance/raid dungeon runs it's good for soloing, grinding, or if you just need to log in for a sec to check your mail, the AH, or your guild's vault. I recomend checking it out.

I know, you all probably think that its uber difficult to use, and for hackers and such, but it's not anymore. Take a shot at ubuntu, you can install it through the Wubi setup system for windows, it won't be a TRUE install, but it will give you a taste of it. I mean, Linux IS the embodiment of open source free software, always has been. You can have 23000 packages to download at a click of a button.

It's a little difficult to learn, but is potentially just as powerful as all those other, more expensive 3d modeling programs. I'm currently using it to make a video game. (Unfortunately, not SATam or sonic related) You can use it to make basic 3d models, advanced/realistic 3d art, special effects, video games, movies, physics tests, and a bunch more stuff that I can't recall at the moment. It's great once you get used to it!

http://www.spotify.com/en/
Media player with free, legal and instant access to streamed music.
One of my tutors at college introduced us to this application couple days ago and I have to say this really is one of the greatest applications I've found. Basically it's like iTunes, except practically all the music is already uploaded into it, all you have to do is type in what you're looking for (band/genre/decade/year/etc) and it's there all ready to listen to without the need to download the tracks and it plays instantly too. It won't replace downloading, but it really is useful if you just want to browse through some music without having to wait for it to download for a track you may not really care about. Sound quality is great too.
The range of music really is impressive too – they don't have everything ever released but there's a lot of diversity in genres. There are a couple of songs that may not be available to listen to, and some artists don't have certain albums available either, though you'd be surprised how many major artists/bands have 95-100% of their material available.
You do need to create an account so you can sign into the app like you would with MSN and you do need to be connected to the internet to listen to anything. You can't download music from directly from this app; your Limewire won't become obsolete if you want an MP3 to stick on your iPod.
Ads do also pop up occasionally in the free version, they're not a problem, although you may get a short audio advert after a song, rarely seems to happen, but its no worse than listening to the radio. And considering what you're getting from this, you can't really complain either.

Name: PS3 controller>Vista
URL:http://www.hardcorew...ntroller-vista/
Description: That link explains it fairly easily enough.
tl:dr
Connect the controller, download the program, load the driver, reboot and voila. Visit your Game Controller setup via Control Panel>Hardware and Sound and you'll see 'PLAYSTATION®3 Controller' listed as an installed and recognised controller. Configure the buttons to your hearts content from there.
A couple of things the article does not mention is make sure your PS3 is completely unplugged as it seems to mess with the controller while plugged into the PC, and last of all when connected to the PC your controller won't be flashing red. For a while I didn't think it was working because of no red power lights flashing on the top, but it does just fine without so don't let it fool you.

Use: A download manager perfect for when you're scavenging the web for programs to download or if you're not a fan of torrents. It also allows you to stop and resume downloads, which is very useful in my case as I have a very weak signal to my ISP. The program also has many other uses, such as auto-detecting when you copy a link, and automatic captcha entry in sites such as megaupload or hotfile.
Make sure you have Java installed too!
