Don't you guys think that a sequel to Sonic Chronicles would be the perfect introduction  of the Freedom Fighters in the games? I do.

Given that I remain rather stalwart in my opposition to the integration of the Freedom Fighters with the mainline Sega continuity, I'm going to have to go with a resounding no.

I would kill for an ME style Sonic RPG with the Satam cast.

While I love the Mass Effect games (or rather, the latter two as well as the last act of the first), they seem a rather poor fit for SatAM or Sonic in general. The combat mechanics ultimately revolve around shooting, an element that is clearly inconsistent with the aesthetics of the Freedom Fighters, as well as any inference that their refusal to use firearms is a deliberate one. The tech powers of Mass Effect would fit reasonably well enough, but alone could not carry the gameplay.

More pressing is the matter of player agency in regard to narrative. Rather than being a player avatar like Commander Shepard, the characters of SatAM already have their own preset personalities. Giving the player more than a very small window of choice in terms of dialogue would result in options that would simply be out of character for the protagonist, whether Sonic, Sally, or someone else. The alternative to accepting this narrow scope of narrative choice would be for the protagonist to be an original character, resulting in a story that comes across as little more than poor self-insert fanfiction.

Okay...you're taking that WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to literally.  I think the idea was more along the line of an RPG with dialog choices and alignment options.

More pressing is the matter of player agency in regard to narrative. Rather than being a player avatar like Commander Shepard, the characters of SatAM already have their own preset personalities. You're generalizing by assuming a original character would be bad to begin with.  Potentially an original character would be the best way to learn or expand with the Freedom Fighters, as you could get to know them in ways that other already existing characters can't because of their already existing personality.  Being able to be mean, encouraging, romantic, harsh, cold, or even silly could potentially get varied results from each character.

Also with as little personality development that Bunnie and Rotor have in SatAM, this would be the ideal way to get to know them.

Given that I remain rather stalwart in my opposition to the integration of the Freedom Fighters with the mainline Sega continuity, I'm going to have to go with a resounding no.

Well good, because an RPG would be a spin-off and not part of the main series. xD

Replace firefighting with and Arkham style combat system and leave the narrative parts the samw. And it would be cool to give a person reigns over a character that way. Giving alternative decisions for them to make and grow in different direction. The Shippers would be pleased. :/

A Sonic/Archie RPG could be good but it presents a ton of questions:

  1. Who writes it? I have a feeling that Archie would send Flynn in to write but SEGA would tell him to back off
  2. Plot. Keep it as the Achie storyline or something new?
  3. How fair will SEGA be to the Archie Characters?
  4. Will it work
  5. Will it sell? Cause some SegaSonic fans i talk to have a burning hatred of the Archie cast (mainly directed at Sally)

You're right; it's sad that this franchise and fan base is so messed up and fractured.

  1. Well...I'd guess Ian would write it if the developer let him.  Otherwise it'd be one of the developer's writers.
  2. Something new.  An adaption of SatAM would be too old now for new audiences, and with the whole Penders issue, I doubt they'd wanna use anything he potentially would sue over.
  3. Assuming that it is a Comic/SatAM inspired game it would be Safe to assume they'd treat the characters fairly.
  4. Who knows?  Hopefully the controls, graphics, and engine would be up to standard, but until anyone got to play it you wouldn't be able to know.
  5. It does have a smaller target audience then a regular Sonic game yes, however this would also be a good way to introduce the characters/concepts to a new generation of potentially paying customers.

Also, with how bad Sonic games have been selling, (according to what I understand Lost World hasn't even cracked 100,000 units world wide), with all of us SatAM fans out there I will all but guarantee that it can do better than that. Maybe at the same time some of the game fans would join us?

Problem with Lost World is that the Wii U itself hasnt sold well to begin with

The 3DS isn't selling very well either honestly.

But with all the bad rep Sonic Lost World has been getting, and the Price of a new system and controllers for it, you can understand why people have been staying away.

You half right about the rep. Critics have been mixed but a lot of fans have prasied it

Its a reverse Sonic 4: Episode 1

Also remember the holiday seasons are coming up, many of the games sales will go to that.  Right now games aren't selling because people are saving up for the Holidays.

This is a fact some of you might not know. Ken Penders is responsible for a SatAM tv movie not being made.

Back in the mid 90's, Ben Hurst approached Sega of America with a script treatment to wrap up the show and transition into the current games. They liked it, and said they would arrange a meeting. However, Ben had asked Ken to come aboard as a partner in it. Ken immediately went behind his back and smeared Hurst's name to Sega, which afterwards they never wanted to have anything to do with the show or him ever again.

Heard this before.  Unfortunately I haven't seen any proof so I really can't condemn Penders for it.  Do I believe he did it?  With every fiber of my being, but without proof unfortunately, innocent til proven guilty.

i remember seeing proof somewhere before but for the life of me i cant remember where though.

Ken wanted to be the only "good writer" SEGA knows and make himself look good at Hurst's expense

I heard and read it myself; it only served to further increase my overall dislike concerning his material.

For years, Penders was convinced that the comic was popular solely for his characters, forgetting that the comic was based on a video-game property and an old tv series which still had a fanbase (the true reasons why the comic lasted for so long). And because of his pride, he refused to adapt anything which contradicted his vision of the series like "Underground" and originally "Sonic Adventure" (forgetting that he could simply... I dunno... ADAPT them?) and was reluctant in cooperating with other writers in the comic (i.e. Bollers). And because he values his creations so much, he is willing to copyright the very concepts which they're based on, outright ignoring his notion that "you can't copyright an idea" (what a hypocrite).

In all honesty, I hope Sega wins the case against him; not just to have Shade in the comics, but to show that he's acting overly obsessive with his creations.

As for Hurst... well... the new Mobian Muttski is named after him. So I guess that's something.

SEGA did win, the Court threw out Pender's case

I still dont like how they used Muttski. I think Hurst should have gotten his own character

I don't believe Hurst needed a character. While having Muttski's real name be Ben is a nice reference/tribute, he doesn't need to BE Hurst.

This was confirmed by Ben Hurst when he was still around. Do some digging through some of his notes floating around and you'll fine the proof.

But this just goes to show that Ken Penders has destroyed all forms of SatAM ever continuing. Let's face it....the comic was never SatAM. And it certainly wasn't when he wrote the characters. He killed the dream for all of us in his ambition and pride to control something that never belonged to him in the first place. Hard to say this but the comic really should have died with Worlds Collide. It would have been nice to see fan works pick up and offer superior ideas, rather than this bastardization of SEGA throwing out the leftover remnants of what started as a comic based off a good cartoon we all liked.
