Probably to help Bungie now that Activision's money isn't backing them.

I'm more surprised about the Fatal Fury character.

@  Wulfsbane : (06 September 2019 - 08:00 AM)

Really wasn't keen on the idea of Sans being playable, but I guess he's in the same vein as Ness/Lucas

@  Wulfsbane : (06 September 2019 - 08:00 AM)

I think it works.

@  GamemasterAn... : (05 September 2019 - 06:53 AM)

So...Sans is a Mii Gunner costume for Smash. Comments?

@  Wulfsbane : (31 August 2019 - 08:00 PM)

Alright, AEW's All Out was pretty freaking good.

I think the reason why Archie is being hush hush is because they are having financial troubles and probably are gambling on Riverdale to be a major success. They may not have the budget to continue the Sonic comics right now but don't want to cancel it, therefore are negotiating with Sega terms to pick it back up after a certain date.

I essentially said this.

Yeah, at this point I'm definitely feeling that the subscriptions are being transferred to a different company.  That would explain not only the delays / cancellations, but also why Archie's been doing the multi-month-long 70% off sale on all Sonic and Mega Man material.  Not much they'll be able to do with Sonic stuff that says "Archie" on it soon, and meanwhile they were mostly just marketing the Mega Man graphic novels to their Sonic readers.

My best guess is that they both hope it will get both of them out of further legal issues.

All will presumably be answered in a few months or so, hopefully.

It was already known that the artists were looking for work. At the same time a lot of the artists had 9-5 jobs to coincide their work with Archie

Well remember, Ian also does multiple other comics as well.

I dont think it's Archie is cheap, I think the artists treated it as a second job

I know that. It was adding to what Shadow said about the artists living off of an Archie paycheck. Ian doing multiple comics too shows that even Ian wasn't paid well too

MOST Comic artists can't live off their paychecks alone.  Making a living off the arts is obscenely difficult precisely because, for as competitive as it is, it is rarely if ever especially profitable, nor all that stable.  The comic artists who can either find the gigs big enough or else juggle ENOUGH gigs to earn a real living is pretty danged small.

All that said, Archie prolly IS fairly cheap as these things go, and I'd say the last several years do not paint an especially good picture of its money handlers.

It's the same statement they have been releasing for the past 5 months.

Almost the same wording as they use when they talk about it on twitter.

I just wish they would give us more details....

The tension ramps up! As much as I want the comic to continue, if it does get rebooted again, will we even recognize the comic anymore?

just found this on Facebook, on the Sonic the Hedgehog page

An important update from SEGA regarding Sonic comics:

"After 24 years of memorable storytelling, SEGA of America will conclude their Sonic the Hedgehog publishing partnership program with Archie Comics. This does not mark the end of Sonic in comics, but signifies SEGA of America’s decision to take a different direction for the series that will be announced at a later date. SEGA would like to thank Sonic’s amazing fans for their loyalty and passion over all the years. SEGA looks forward to providing more information soon."

RIP Archie Sonic: 1992-2017

What got me was the line "This does not mark the end of Sonic in comics", so... IDW, anyone?

Also, Archie should try again with Mario. They did so well with Sonic that Nintendo should reconsider.

They did well until the whole 'Penders suing everyone' debacle. Unfortunately they will probably be seen as too much of a risk for most companies to invest a property into.
