Rotor took his seat in front of the De-Roboticizer Console, looking from its many buttons and knobs to the two whose lives it could drastically change.
"Alright, Bunnie...you all set?" the walrus asked the young rabbit.
"I'm set, Sugah-Rote," Bunnie answered, standing atop a small platform connected to the computer.
"And you, Antoine?"
"Oui, oui..." the coyote replied gently, standing in front of the platform.
"Then let's give this one more shot," Rotor said, pushing the main button on the computer.
As she had every other time they had tried this procedure, Bunnie felt her heart beat a little faster as a small green cylinder descended from above, encapsulating her with a low mechanical hiss. The machine began to hum as its systems started to activate, causing the rabbit even more anxiety.
"Deep breaths, ma cherie..." Antoine called soothingly from the other side of the glass, looking up at her with a gentle smile. "Zis time. Zis time for sure."
He pressed his hand against the tube, even as he felt the warmth building up around it.
Tears dotted Bunnie's eyes as she reached out with her own hand, the hand she hoped would be flesh and fur again when this was over. Placing it over Antoine's, she returned his smile.
"This time for sure," she replied hopefully.
